Christianity Today reckons he's currently the person most associated with the word "Christian" achieving a higher recognition rating than Mother Teresa or Billy Graham. His daring "El Bandito" moustache, thick glasses and chunky green sweater are recognized instantly by a staggering 91 per cent of children in the USA. Most interestingly of all, 84 per cent of adults know him, too.
He is Ned Flanders, the irrepressibly cheerful, okily dokily-uttering, church-loving neighbor of cartoon family The Simpsons.
Now he's stepping from the 2-D world of TV to the 3-D world of Gadgets for God, and can be yours for only $10. Ned comes complete with Bible, chef's hat (bearing the legend "Bishop of BBQ") and a spatula. Phrases include his classic: "Evenin' neighbor." A gadget-lover himself, Ned's doorbell in the cartoon series chimes 'A Mighty Fortress is Our God'. Anybody know where we can get one?
